Cloth Diaper Use Guidelines
Sustainably diapering your baby is practical, easy and intuitive. Follow these simple care practices for success and contact us if you have any additional questions, we’re here to help!
Do not rinse out your cloth diapers.
No rinsing is necessary, in fact, please DON’T rinse your diapers! In our coastal climate, the added moisture from a rinsed diaper in the diaper pail can create the conditions for mold to bloom, which can ruin diapers. Drop dirty diapers directly in the diaper pail and our tried and true laundering process will take care of it. For older babies eating solid foods, just plop the solids in the toilet, we recommend Biodegradable, Disposable Diaper Liners for an “ick-free” assist. For folks on delicate septic systems we recommend designating an inexpensive plastic spatula to keep in the bathroom for this purpose.
Store used diapers in the Rubbermaid Bin we provide or use a Washable Diaper Pail Liner in your home diaper pail. Do not store soiled diapers in a plastic trash bag.
Please do not use a plastic trash bag to line your diaper pail. Plastic is not a breathable material and can create the conditions in your diaper pail for mold to bloom and diaper damage to occur. Please place soiled diapers either directly in the Rubbermaid Bin provided with your service or line your home diaper pail with a Washable Pail Liner. We provide complimentary washing of client’s washable diaper pail liners and recommend that folks have two so that one can stay in your home while the other is being laundered.
Please only return soiled cloth diapers and cloth diapering accessories for pick up.
If you are using disposable wipes, please dispose of them properly in the garbage and do your best to ensure they do not get mixed in with the laundry. We are not always able to remove them prior to laundering and they can damage our equipment. We recommend keeping a small step trashcan near your changing station for their disposal. Check out our cloth wipes service and wipe up wash to skip a step and fully opt-out of the landfill.
We will launder any personal items that are accidentally mixed in with diapers but we cannot guarantee their return. If a personal item is accidentally mixed in with your diaper laundry and is not returned the following week, please contact us and we will do our best to track it down and get it back to you. Waterproof diaper covers do not require special treatment and can be washed with your regular household laundry.
Leave all used diapers and cloth accessories out for pick up on your delivery day.
Leave your bin out for pick up by 11am on your pick up day to ensure that used diapers are laundered promptly and do not sit in the pail for longer than necessary. Leaving used diaper in the pail for too long can lead to diaper damage and early retirement. Please see our loss & damage policy. While we do send an Automated TextSMS reminder each week (coming February 2024), that feature is a courtesy and should not be relied on as the only means of remembering to put out your bin. We recommend setting a calendar reminder, a recurring cell phone alarm or writing it on a post-it note and placing it somewhere highly visible.
Cloth diapers should only be used to diaper your baby.
Please do not use cloth diapers for other household uses. While their size and absorbent material can be useful for many tasks, using them for cleaning or anything other than diapering your baby can damage them and force us to retire them early. Please see our Policies, Terms & Conditions.
